About Gallery “Wystawa”
At the end of 1990s, Żoliborz, one of the Warsaw city districts, abounded with social and cultural activities. Projects, artistic groups and galleries – private, public or simply being an effect of spontaneous actions – collapsed and were recreated again with new assemblage. Not many of them remain on the map today.
One of organisers of the then artistic activities in Żoliborz was Mateusz Bal. Creator and enthusiast with a dream to found a place that could join various artistic statements, generations of “masters and students”. A place that would present artists to Żoliborz district, with its potential and opportunities. Mateusz Bal had taken initiative to establish the Gallery of Contemporary Art “Wystawa” at the Association “Family First” of which Bal is the President.
The first exhibition took place in November, 2008 and against all odds and with several intervals, the Gallery has been operating till today. The interior with characteristic black and white floor was a setting for several dozen of openings. The artistic curator, representing the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, is Łukasz Rudnicki, PhD – assistant professor at the Faculty of Painting. The Gallery presents artistic accomplishments of professors, assistant professors, graduates and students of the Academy and it demonstrates interesting artistic projects developed by Polish and foreign artists.
